Some Interesting Facts About the Olympic Games

• The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC. That competition lasted for six months and included events like wrestling, boxing, long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, and chariot racing.
• In 393 BC, the Olympic Games were cancelled and were not resumed for more than 1,500 years!
• In 1896, a man named Baron Pierre de Coubertin reintroduced the Olympic Games under the name “Modern Olympics,” which continue to this day!
• The Olympic torch is a tribute to the Games’ Greek origins. In ancient times, a sacred flame would burn throughout the Games in honor of the goddess Hestia.
• The burning Olympic torch has been taken into the sky, underwater, and even to the summit of Mount Everest! Some unlit torches have even been taken into space.
• The medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics will contain a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower.

पहिलो ओलम्पिक खेल ७७६ ईसा पूर्वमा भएको थियो। उक्त प्रतियोगिता छ महिनासम्म चलेको थियो, जसमा कुस्ती, बक्सिङ, Long जम्प, जेवलिन थ्रो, डिस्कस र रथ दौडजस्ता खेलहरू समावेश थिए। 

•  ३९३ BC मा ओलम्पिक खेलहरू रद्द गरिए र १,५०० वर्षभन्दा बढी समयसम्म पुनः सुरु भएनन्! 
•  १८९६मा बैरन पियर डे कुबर्टिन (Baron Pierre de Coubertin) नामका एक व्यक्तिले ‘आधुनिक ओलम्पिक्स’ (‘modern Olympics) को नाम ले ओलम्पिक खेलहरूको पुनः सुरुआत गरे, जुन आज पनि जारी छ! 
•  ओलम्पिक मशाल खेलहरूको ग्रीक उत्पत्तिको सम्झना हो। प्राचीन समयमा, देवी हेस्टियालाई सम्मानस्वरूप खेलहरू भरि एक ज्योति बलिरहन्थ्यो। 
•  जलिरहेको ओलम्पिक मशाललाई आकाशमा र पानी मुनि लगीनुका साथै सगरमाथा मा पनि चढाईएको छ ! नबलेका केही ओलम्पिक मशालहरू अन्तरिक्षमा समेत लगिएका छन्। 
•  पेरिस २०२४ ओलम्पिक मा पदकहरूमा एफिल टावरको मौलिक फलामको टुक्रा हुनेछ।
